Insecticide Kit
1. Test procedure - each larva or unfed adult mosquito collected from the field is independently homogenized in 0.5 ml buffer. Only 5 µl of homogenate is moved to substrate saturate filter paper. Once the filter paper is dried out, the paper is put into a petri-dish having freshly ready stain. The look of strong colour spot indicates growth of resistance against OP insecticide in mosquitoes. 2. Storage stability - it can be stored at room temperature and the storage space constancy of substrate impregnated filter paper was found to be more than 90 days as compared to shelf life of 15-30 days of any extra allied kind of paper developed somewhere else at refrigerated conditions. 3. Field trials - Extensive field trials conducted at diverse location indicate clear distinct colour spot between vulnerable and resistance mosquitoes. The evaluation of kit has been done at malaria research centre Advantages: 1. Rapid as the kit takes only 15-30 minutes to get the result. 2. Small volume of only 2-5 µl of only mosquito homogenate is required when compared to big number of insects. 3. Staff and cost effective due to semi skilled individual can perform the test in the field itself and each test cost around only five rupees. The kit is light and weighs less too. |
