Classification Of InsecticidesEach major group of insecticides for instance herbicides or plant growth regulators is subdivided into chemical or other classes like chloroacetanilide herbicides or auxins. As a help to navigating the larger groups like acaricides, fungicides, herbicides, insecticides, nematicides and plant growth regulators, there are summaries containing presently the chemical classes and not the individual substances. Individual compounds may able to occur in more than one group or class and at more than one place within a group or class. This document sets out a categorization organization to distinguish between the more and the less dangerous forms of selected insecticides based on acute risk to human health, that is the risk of single or multiple exposures over a relatively short period of time. It takes into thought the toxicity of the technological compound and its common formulations. Classification documents: The document lists general technical grade insecticides and recommended classifications together with a listing of vigorous ingredients. It is believed to be obsolete or discontinued for use as pesticides, pesticides subject to the previous informed consent procedure, limits to trade because of the convention and gaseous or unstable fumigants not classified under these recommendations. The document replaces the 2000-2002 editions of the classification and as a novelty. It provides web links to most of the source documents too. Previous classification of insecticides: As has been the case for earlier editions of the classification, the new edition complies with the original guidelines approved by the very know body in 1975. In December 2002 the experts on the transport of dangerous goods and on the globally harmonized system of classification and labeling of chemicals approved a document named "The globally harmonized system of classification and labeling of chemicals" with the intention to provide a globally-harmonized structure to address classification of chemicals, labels, and safety data sheets. Classification and labeling based on sensitive toxicity form a part of the GHS and there are some differences among the GHS and the WHO traditional classification of pesticides by hazard. WHO, is in the procedure of adjusting the insecticides classification to conform to the GHS. The results of this process are expected to be obtainable in the next edition of the classification, to be published next coming years. |
